CPP: Do you have an example of what has worked for you lately?

[Kari Metzger]: <sigh> Much as I hate to admit it, what has worked for me lately is getting on the phone and calling all my stale customers on old door prize entry forms.  I spent one hour doing that a few weeks ago (with a LARGE number of conversations saying ‘yes, Kari Metzger… the Stamping lady… you met me at xxx’s workshop? … Kari Metzger…”  RUBBER stamps….  YES!  That’s me <big sigh!>) - lesson learned?  call your interested folks right after they express interest.  But, I booked 4 workshops in that hour!

CPP: Do you have an example of what has worked for you lately?

[Angela Bodas]: Scheduling office hours has really helped me focus and be productive. Since my daughter has started preschool a couple mornings a week, I’ve been able to spend dedicated time working on my business. I have found that working uninterrupted, in daylight hours, has its advantages to my previous midnight-or-later office hours! I may not have as many hours to work, but my energy is high and my focus is strong. Its also a great time to connect with others, as most people are on Facebook or Twitter at this time.

[Meg Loven]: I’ve started using Eventbrite as a paid service for taking class registrations online. I used to struggle with tracking who had signed up for what, plus collecting payments ahead of the class. I find Eventbrite to be very useful in simplifying the process. You’d think with two kids of school age I’d have more free time, but I am actually really enjoying having my time filled by my family. What time I do have to craft and create has been spent making, but not been making it to cyberspace. One of my goals is to build “sharing time” into my business schedule and keep my blog and Facebook page more current.

[Meg Loven]: I maintain contact with my customers regularly through email newsletters. I want them to remember that I’m out there, whether they have been to a class or workshop lately or not. That way when they have a stamping need, they think of me first. It’s fairly common for me to hear from customers again after 2-3 years without seeing them. I never remove a name from my email contact list unless requested, and I often hear that people love the ideas I send and look forward to a time when they can get back into stamping.

Sally Stamper just got back from a wonderful vacation to visit her grandkids, well I’ve got scrapbooks for that! Sandy Stampsalot needs ideas for classroom favors for the next holiday? Well, I think I know who can help her out!

You don’t have to be nosey, or even pushy, but just be aware. People like to be noticed for the things they post, you’re noticing and offering them ways to make those events even more special, memories into treasures, and “What-do-I-do”‘s into “Look What I Did!”.

[GDL]: At workshops, I walk the attendees through the order form, highlighting that if they would like to receive my newsletters, to put their email address down. If they don’t want the newsletters, then please leave it blank. I also walk them down the side of the order form where it says Hostess a workshop and tell them to mark it (jokingly of course), and I have booked workshops that way where I may not have otherwise. I also tell them of the special that I offer to hostesses where if someone at their workshops books a workshop, then at their friends workshop they would receive a $30 or less stamp set at half price from me. The workshop has to hold and be a $150 workshop, and the original hostess has to attend to get the offer. If the original hostess has three people book, she gets three stamp sets half price. It gets the hostess motivated to get people to book.

[CPP] Do you have any organizational tips?
[CLG]: My Calendar in Outlook is my life! I shedule everything there so that each day I get up and my caledar tells me exactly what to do. For example: If I’m planning a Stamp of the Month Club fot the last Thursday of every month then here are the tasks I would schedule on my calendar.

Design the Class: 6 weeks before
Advertise the Class: 4-5 weeks before. I use Constant Contact and Kijiji for my advertising.
Order in the stamp sets 3 weeks before the class
Send out the 1st reminder 1 week before the class and cut for the class
Send out a second reminder 2 days before the class

The system has worked because I have very few no shows to a class. Participants order and pay for their stamp set at the previous class. Because they can see the projects in advance, it helps them to stay excited about upcoming events.

[Tami White]: In my early days with Stampin’ Up!, workshops helped me build a strong customer base with repeat hostesses. These key factors enabled me to transform my business and experience exponential business growth. Today I have over 130 consistent customers who order from me every month. Most of these attend one of my hybrid club sessions which, like workshops, are tailored to keep new customers coming in. I encourages attendees to bring new friends, offering incentives if their guest joins one of my clubs. By doing this, I meets new people every month. I then use that as a springboard to invite that hostess to become a demonstrator. I love showing people their earning potential. Just in one workshop, they can walk away with a great night’s pay for playing with friends. Following the Statement of the Heart, I am eager to share what I love with others. “I love Stampin’ Up! and the opportunities it’s brought to our family, and I want to share that with everyone.”

[Fran Sabad]: I think my biggest challenge is getting on the phone and making
those calls. I’ve set a number of calls that I’m challenging myself to make each week and have posted it where I have to look at it every day. Guilt is a great motivator and I’m trying to get to the point where I’m not on the phone all day on Fridays!

[Georgia Giguere]:Workshops! I’m really enjoying putting the emphasis back on workshops in my business! It has breathed new life into my business! I forgot how much easier it is to do workshops than classes!

Part of the reason that it’s easier is that I use my club projects for my workshop projects. So that cuts down my prep and planning to just a few projects each month rather than many! I can do the same workshop many times rather than develop a new class that I may do only once.

[Lisa Freeman]: What I try to do each month is pick about 10 products to showcase. I try to do all of the projects around those items. Like last month, I concentrated on the scallop square die, the 2 tags die, 2 kinds of DSP, the I Heart Hearts set, the Vintage Vogue set and more. I pick the items ahead of time and then focus on those for all of my make and takes. Usually, my customers will buy whatever I show them so I try to do a variety of things but use them all throughout the workshop. I try to create a couple extra samples using these same products so as I am demoing them, I pull out the other ones too to show them another way they can use it if they purchase it. It seems to work pretty well. By the end of the class, they can’t wait to get these items.

CPP: Do you have an example of what has worked for your business lately?

[Karla Anders]: About a year and a half ago I started a design team with 4 of my Downline, who are business builders. We meet at my house once a month. I make a fancy dinner for them and we plan Stamp Camps, Clubs and Downline Meetings. It has worked out great! Everyone designs and plans out a project, has a say in how the Camp or Meeting runs, can advertise the Event(s) with their customers and takes a share of the profits. The best thing is that no one has to come up with the idea’s all by themselves.

CPP: Any tips regarding the project you are sharing?

[HES]: I use individual file folders for my card stock.  I leave the large pieces in the front of the file folder and the smaller scraps in 4″x 9″ ziplock bags from the paper store organized by color in a small tub – not stacked on top of each other, but vertically so you can see the colors when you open the box. I always check the front of the folder and the scrap box before I cut into a new piece to eliminate waste. 

I hang my punches on 2 cheap curtain rods on the wall in my craft room (thanks to one of your previous dynamic demonstrators!), and many of my embellishments and scrap ribbon go in magnetic containers that hang on a cute board on the wall.  My husband built me a ribbon caddy with a round base and three dowels, so they come off easily when I need to take them with me.

CPP: Any organizational tips?

[LM]: Sometimes I have a hard time remembering to tell my stampers about the promotions that are on. What I did was put a dry erase board in my classroom and I write down what’s current. This reminds me to tell them, and even if I don’t, they know to look there for the promos.

CPP: What have you done to retain your downline?

[LG]: My downline has been spread all across the country from the very beginning, so I have offered a yahoogroup for them for many years. We do a monthly card swap by mail (taking turns hosting it), and I lead a monthly teleconference, too. And I’m really big on encouraging them to come to Convention every year to get to know their upline and sideline “family”. Locally, I also host get-togethers, too. I have observed that retention is directly associated with “connection”. Obviously there are many who choose to stay away and not participate, but those who do participate tend to stay in longer and have more productive businesses.
