Find a Balance

Posted by: Debbie McNeill | Comments (0)

As a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, we have the best of both worlds, don’t we? We are able to live our life as we choose, striving to attain our goals, hopes and dreams. Of course with all of this freedom and empowerment comes a heady dose of stress. Entrepreneurs have the common characteristic of biting off more than they can chew. I blame my father personally for this since he is the one that instilled this trait in me.

Jump drive, flash drive or thumbnail – they are all similar names for the same kind of device. These are external drives that are used to save information that you want to keep. But, how many of them do you really need?

Your computer has a hard drive. And, that hard drive has a certain amount of memory on it. It is a good idea to buy a computer with hard drive memory in mind so multiple applications or multiple files won’t slow your system down. Sometimes, you need external storage for more versatility.

I thought I would try something new this year for advertising…direct mail.  Direct mail and advertising are two extremely powerful marketing tools when they’re done correctly. I’m sending postcards to my customers who I think might be interested in My Digital Studio. The piece will show a picture of the product with a bow wrapped around it. A quick paragraph about what it is and to contact me for purchase. There needs to be a special offer so I’m offering to gift wrap and deliver if they have the product shipped to me.

When Do You Need to Defragment?

Posted by: Debbie McNeill | Comments (0)

Computer maintenance is one way to keep your laptop or PC working like new five years from now. Many people don’t think about maintenance until something catastrophic happens, but you have the good fortune to be thinking about it now. It’s just like your health. One part of the maintenance process is keeping your computer running at tiptop speed.

I couldn’t talk about anti-spyware without talking about antivirus protection.  DUH!  In the time of rapidly advancing technology, it is more necessary than ever to protect your computer. Criminals have risen to the challenge and can use this technology to steal your information. Install software that searches for the criminal element and eliminates it from ever being a problem.

Protect yourself while on the computer. We don’t leave our bikes unchained anymore, or leave our cars unlocked. Criminals have found ways to steal your information especially when you thought that you were safe. One way to thwart them is to employ anti-spyware tools to protect yourself when you are on the computer.

You can lose weight if you set your mind to it! That’s what everyone tells me.  Why isn’t my mind listening?  It’s not that I want the body of your dreams, I just want to feel heathly…and fit into my clothes again.

My biggest barrier to face is actually my self-discipline and willpower.

My demonstrator friend decided when she bought her My Digital Studio software that she needed a new computer. She asked me for some advice and this is what I told her.

There are many accessories mentioned when you buy a computer. The sales associate may ask about what you plan to do with the computer to help you determine the type of video card you will require.  If they don’t ask you this very simple question, WALK AWAY!

Backup Your Computer – Please!

Posted by: Debbie McNeill | Comments (3)

We’ve all heard about someone whose computer has crashed. It’s a terrible mess. That person probably thought that it couldn’t happen to them until it did. Trust me, it happens.  In fact, my computer has crashed twice this year alone. Be proactive and back up your data.

A computer’s hard drive can crash for any number of reasons. You don’t want to be happily finishing up a 30 page class project for tomorrow when it happens. Where does the information go? It is lost in the abyss that has become home to many a kilobyte.

We are a generation of multi-taskers. We are on the go. We talk on the cell phone while waiting in line for our coffee. We type notes on our laptops while waiting for doctor’s appointments. We busily jot down ideas on napkins while we are at our child’s soccer games.

As women and as mothers, we are great at using every moment we have to the best of our abilities. Combining our talent for getting things done and our love for crafting is easy to multi-task our way into an extra income.
