Because we know that variety and options are good for your Stampin' Up! business, we have a class and club planners that will help you save time and sanity in 2012. Here's some steps you can take to review what worked and what you would like to change for 2012.

2012 is almost here! The New Year is a good time to look at new ways of doing business. But before you look forward, it is good to take a look back. Look at what areas of your business are most successful. Ask yourself questions about what is and isn’t working well for you. What classes get the best attendance? What new product lines do you want to feature?

We do this type of review for Class in a Flash twice a year, at Convention and at Leadership. We usually start out with a sinful dinner and then grab a couple cups of coffee while we look over our sales data and feedback we’ve received from you. Then we plan our future class planers and Club in a Flash projects based on that information. Sometimes we are really surprised by what we find! Some of the things we think will be most popular are and some aren’t. Sometimes the popularity of a planner will surprise us, like our 6 Ways to Watercolor class, which has quickly become one of our top sellers. What we’ve learned over the last four years (yes, we are celebrating 4 years this month!) is that if we take the time to look at what is working, we can make our services better for you. You can use the same type of review to make your business better for you and your customers.

What we look at:
1. What have we offered? We look at what types of classes we did in the last year and make a list. We list if they were card projects, scrapbooking, décor, Big Shot, etc.

==> You can do this by looking back through your schedule, calendar, newsletters, and/or blog entries to make a list of what classes and clubs you offered.

2. How successful or popular where those classes and Clubs? We pull sales reports and look at the financial side. (Amy’s least favorite part, thank goodness Debbie is so organized!) We also look at feedback we’ve received from you.

==> You can do this using your accounting software, bank statements, or by looking back over your calendar and email to see what type of response you received. Are your scrapbooking classes always full, but card classes need more attendance? Or do you fill-up your classes and need to add more to your calendar? Are certain clubs needing a facelift?

3. What should we offer going forward? Based on the sales data and feedback we start planning the types of classes we will offer. Since card classes are some of our most popular classes we plan more of those into our schedule. We also look at things like holidays or events such as National Scrapbooking Month and plan projects accordingly.

==> You can use the information about what works best for your schedule and your customers’ interests to make a plan for the year. If something is working really well do you want to add a second class or group? If something isn’t working, maybe it is time to change the format or replace it with something else. If a year seems too daunting try making a plan for 6 months first.

Once you know what is working for you and what isn’t then you can decide how you want to move forward. If card classes are really popular you may decide you want to add another one each month. If you haven’t done scrapbooking, maybe add it to your schedule. If your customers really like the techniques you teach at card classes maybe it is time to add a Technique Club. Maybe your schedule of classes is good, but you need to reduce the time you spend planning or have a better idea of what your classes will cost.

That is where we can help! Because we know that variety and options are good for business we have lots of class and club planners that will help you save time and sanity for 2012. Below is a list of resources from Class in a Flash for any type of class or club you want to offer.

So at the start of every January, millions of people around the world resolve that this year is the year that they will finally get organized and stay that way. But by the end of every January, many of those same people have already given up all hope of ever reaching their organizing goals.

This may even sound like a New Year’s Resolution in your own life! If it does, you are not alone.

There’s actually an important – yet little-known – reason for these failed organizing resolutions. The real reason lies in the fact that people try to achieve an organizing ideal, or what they believe organizing should be, instead of organizing their life according to their own rules.

In other words, it’s common for people to see these amazingly organized homes in magazines and on TV, and think: “That’s what I’ve got to do to be organized!”

And because everything seems so picture-perfect, that first thought is followed quickly by this one: “How am I going to pull THAT off?”

Well, I’ve got FABULOUS NEWS for you! You don’t have to “pull THAT off.”

Let me introduce you to my friend Carmen Coker, who is an award-winning professional organizer and productivity expert. She has uncovered four unique organizing personalities, and by understanding your distinctive organizing personality, you can create long-lasting systems to support your best life. (Which is much better than copying systems that look good in glossy magazines but don’t work for you in the end!)

That’s why I’m happy to announce her brand system:

“21-Day Clutter Cleanse: Purify Your Space and Your Life”

And if you ACT NOW, you will get a fast-action savings of $50 OFF regular price – but only for a limited time!

Find out your Organizational Personality by watching Carmen’s FREE Videos. Don’t wait any longer – your total transformation (and the “21-Day Clutter Cleanse”) is set to begin very soon.

Go to: http://www.craftyperson.com/ClutterSpecialOffer.htm

To your clutter-free life!

Debbie

PS. How do you want your life to be in 6 months, 12 months, 2 years, 5 years, even 10 years from now? I know you don’t want to be exactly where you are now, stuck in a frustrating clutter rut. You want to be living life to its fullest! The time is now, YOUR TIME IS NOW… Take an opportunity to watch Carmen’s FREE videos, you have nothing to lose except clutter.
It’s about a six-foot tall adopted elf named Buddy (played by Will Ferrell). He goes to New York to meet his birth father, played by James Caan. It’s a little over the top but It made me laugh and then it made me think. The story is that Buddy’s enthusiasm is contagious. He even convinces his new family that syrup tastes good ON EVERYTHING!

So as a Stampin’ Up! business owner, here’s your business lesson from Buddy the Elf: “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing out loud for all to hear.”

Enthusiasm is catchy. No one is going to be more excited about your Stampin’ Up! business, your products, your classes, your blog than you are.

Think about the last time you went out to eat. If the waitress gave a lackluster endorsement to the daily special, you likely took a pass. But if she said, “I just tried it before my shift and it was delicious!” you’d be a little more likely to partake. Enthusiasm sells.

I know what you are thinking and I feel the same way. Sometimes we feel a little hesitant to show our enthusiasm. I do it all the time. I truly feel our Class in a Flash class planners are one of the best out there, but I rarely speak about it. It can be risky to show how much we care about something. But if we don’t show our passion, we’re not going to convince anyone else to follow or act on our recommendations. RIGHT?

Here are a few tips to make you (and I), more like Buddy the Elf without sounding like an escapee from the North Pole:

Be honest. Don’t sell or promote something you don’t believe in. It never works – people can tell, and you’ll damage your reputation.

Be yourself. You may be the understated type who isn’t going to jump out of a helicopter like my idol Richard Branson to promote your latest business venture. You don’t have to be! (There is only one Richard Branson) But do show your energy in a way that is natural for you.

Be realistic. If you promote every new product that Stampin’ Up! comes out with, or have a new class du jour, pretty soon no one is going to listen to you. Choose only the products and type of events that you are passionate about. For instance, Build-A-Bear isn’t my thing so I don’t promote it. But the Big Shot…that I am confident is one of the best tools every crafter must have and I’ll sing it out.

You don’t have to dress up in pointy shoes to get customers to schedule a Sale-A-Bration workshop. But hey… if the shoe fits… why not?

For the last two months I’ve been working overtime offering my Holiday Helper to demonstrators to send to their customers. It’s a labor of love as I enjoy working with the demonstrator designers and I like making my customer look good. This year I’ve really put my heart and soul and a lot of hours into the campaign. Today, I received two emails that truthfully almost had me in tears.

“I can’t even imagine the work that went into creating all that. How that wish list had my name on it in the poem is beyond me. You are a whiz at what you do and I appreciate every single thing you do for me. Thank you, thank you and Happy Thanksgiving. You are my hero!!!!!” ~ Susan Nygaard

Gulp! It’s so special when someone takes the time to acknowledge you. I’m very grateful for the customers I have worked with. Have you shown you gratitude to your customers lately? Have you taken the time to thank them for coming to your classes, referring you to others and especially purchasing from you? I know I haven’t nearly enough but Susan has really shown me the power of acknowledgement. Let’s give it a try – shall we?

I am grateful for you. Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter and giving me an avenue to partner with you in your business endeavors. Wow, that feels good!

To your successes!
Debbie

P.S. I would love to hear what you are grateful for.

I have had the pleasure of working with one of the top copywriters around today, Lisa Manyon of Write On ~ Creative Writing Services, LLC. I am awed by her talent to write excellent, engaging copy. What I have learned from Lisa is that writing powerful, high-converting copy means understanding exactly how to trigger just the right emotions to induce someone to want to buy your product. She has taught me that what will really make the difference is learning to write emotionally to the prospect, rather than just logically.

You maybe asking, Debbie, what is copywriting? It’s the language that you use to entice prospects to buy or engage with you in one manner or the other. We all want that right? This is a skill that you should be working on all the time. So how can you learn to trigger the right emotions in your readers? Here are a few effective strategies that I have learned from Lisa Manyon.

=> Relate to the Problem

If you’re going to help them, they first need to know that you understand the pain they’re going through. Unless they really feel that you “get” them, they probably won’t believe that whatever solution you have will really work.

Describe the problem in detail. Describe it with emotional words. Stories can often make a huge difference. Tell your own story of experiencing the problem first hand, or tell someone else’s story in detail.

The more they feel like you “get” them, the more they’ll trust you. Also, the more you can get them to relive the pain as they read your sales letter, the more powerful their desire for a solution.

For example: “You may be thinking that you can’t make a card like this on your own. That’s what I thought too, until I realized there are quick cards that you can make that have a real impact. I used to worry about my cards not being perfect but then I gave my first card to my Grandma for her birthday. I was overjoyed when I heard her say “You made this card with your own hands for me? I feel so special, thank you. I’ll treasure it for ever”? I continue to receive the like responses over and over.”

=> Pile On Hard-to-Refute Proof

It’s not the big claims and benefits that get someone excited. In a really powerful piece of copy, it’s actually the proof that really gets people’s imagination running.

You could tell someone that they’ll lose twenty pounds with your system, but more likely than not they’ll just gloss over your claim. It’s only when you start piling on scientific studies, real world results and other proof elements that people really start to believe it’s possible.

The real skill in demonstrating a product in copy form comes in getting someone to believe that you can really follow through on your claim. Do this by piling proof on top of proof on top of proof.

When you get to the point where the reader can’t refute your claim anymore, both consciously and subconsciously, then you’ve won the sale.

For example: we can easily show proof that making simple, personalized, handmade cards in volume is cheaper than buying cards at the local store. Most of the cards I make are under $1.00 consumable products. Compare that to $4 cards at the store and the cost of gas to go to the store each time.

=> Master Urgency Techniques

The call to action is one of the most important aspects of your copy. It’s what pushes someone over the line, from being excited about a product to actually being a customer of a product.

What’s the secret to a powerful call to action? Urgency.

If you can get someone to believe that they can’t act later, but have to actually physically pull out their credit card now, then your call to action has done its job.

Two of the most powerful techniques to do this are the time-sensitive offer and the limited amount offer. Either one of these two techniques has been proven again and again to yield high conversions.

For example: “I only have 3 seats left for next week’s class. This class has been very popular and I would love to see you join us so sign-up today at xxxxxx.”

These are three effective copywriting techniques that have been used by master copywriter, Lisa Manyon. Relate to their problems emotionally, pile on the proof, and make sure you end with a bang by instilling a driving sense of urgency.

PayPal’s shopping cart makes it easy for website owners to process payments for multiple products.

PayPal’s shopping cart makes it easy for website owners to process payments for multiple products.

Other shopping carts like 1ShoppingCart, ZenCart and so on require a different payment processor on the back-end, usually with a merchant account tied to a gateway like Authorize.net. That makes the setup process cumbersome and time consuming, sometimes taking months if you don’t already have a merchant account and gateway setup.

PayPal on the other hand, integrates the shopping cart software automatically with its payment processing, so all you need to do is create the buy buttons for your products and you’re up and running.

With PayPal’s shopping cart system, users can add multiple products to their shopping cart and see their products, taxes, shipping and totals before checking out. They can add as many products as they want and just go through the payment process once, making it easy to sell multiple products at once.

Here’s how to add an Add to Cart button to your website.

Login to PayPal

Step 1: Click on Merchant Services Tab

Step 2: Click on Add to Cart Button

Step 3: Select Item Name and Price

Step 4: Customize Your Button

Step 5: Specify Shipping and Taxes

Step 6: Apply Advanced Options (Optional)

Step 7: Click Create Button and Upload Code

After months of researching, reviewing, contemplating and yes drooling…I finally purchased my iPad2 16MB WiFi. It was a difficult investment for me to make because I’m a PC girl. I already have a smart phone, a Kindle, a laptop, an iPod and a desktop computer. What on earth would I do with yet another device? Especially after I agreed to my husband that I would be more “unplugged” from work. But the darn thing is just too cool to not get it. Actually, I did make a really good business case for it.

Here’s my business cases and I’m sticking to them.

I needed a way to capture email addresses when I’m at a workshop and events. I have been collecting forms and business cards but I really don’t want to enter them in myself. Because I got just the wi-fi version, I may not always have this option. But it’s becoming more prevalent to have a wi-fi connection than not. Besides, when I enter the email address in for the subscriber later, they miss my extra special offers that I make them when they sign-up.

I keep up with many different technology trends, which means reading trade books, blog posts and white papers. I retain the information better when I’m not sitting at my desk reading from my computer screen. I was hoping the Kindle would do this for me but the workaround was a lot of work.

I communicate through email more than on the phone and I found doing so on the smart phone was a bit difficult for long messages. Email was the most important reason and I’m happy to say the email application works wonderfully. The only issue I’m experiencing with it is I get more spam then usual because Outlook usually handles that for me.

I need a better system for capturing meeting notes. Amy Barnes (co-founder of Class in a Flash) and I have a twice a year face-to-face planning meeting because she lives in Colorado and I live in Portland. Last year, we came up with some incredible ideas on how to support you, which I wrote down and promptly lost on the way home to Portland. Now, I can record the notes properly AND even video record the meetings. How cool is that?

Have you ever ran into someone you haven’t seen for years and they ask you what you do? Now I can show them my newsletter samples, cards projects, scrapbook pages and list out upcoming events in a moment’s notice. And take their contact information.

Writing. Sometimes it comes to me and sometimes it doesn’t. Most of the time, when I am sitting at my desk, I stare at a blank screen. I am writing this article on my iPad right now at 11pm. I have the iWork system. This is similar to Microsoft Office. You can use Word, produce spreadsheets, do slide shows, and so on. The keyboard worked well for me too.

You are probably wondering if there are any negatives I considered?

Videos

There are a few. For one thing, $500 is a lot to pay for any mobile device. Also, I’ve run into a few websites that I couldn’t watch their videos on. iPad does have a separate application for YouTube which I haven’t explored yet. And ALL of my previous videos I have were not able to be viewed on the iPad. Eek!

What about battery length?

I played with the iPad until the wee hours of the morning. The batteries went for roughly ten hours. I’ve heard my friends say they found this number to be higher, depending on what they are using it for. On the other hand, if you have a number of applications open, this number will probably be less. It all depends on how many programs you have open at once.

Connectivity

The last thing I wanted was ANOTHER wireless data account from another carrier so I opted for the wi-fi version only. At home and work, I’m connected fine but outside of that it is up in the air. In our neighborhood, we have a Starbucks, McDonalds and a Barnes and Noble that all have free wireless connection. I had no problems connecting at Starbucks while drinking the new mocha coconut Frappuccino.

Despite what you would think, it’s amazingly easy to carry around because of its narrow width. It’s just one half inches thick and the new cover works marvelous. On the whole, the iPad is a great machine, and the pros outweigh the cons. As my business and I are constantly on the go, I felt it was a good investment for me.

I have been bombarded by Stik.com wall posts. I find this application annoying because I would not recommend anyone unless I know them personally and if that is the case, contact me directly and I’m happy to oblige. I’m pretty picky, I don’t like any application posted from others on my wall. However, I do love just regular wall posts from friends and family, so I don’t want to restrict my wall privacy settings. If you have any involvement with this application and would like to get rid of it, here is how:

1) Log-in to your Facebook Account. Top right select ACCOUNT drop down list.

2) Select PRIVACY SETTINGS.

3) Bottom of the Privacy Settings page, select Apps and Websites >> EDIT YOUR SETTINGS.

4) Apps You Use >> EDIT SETTINGS.

5) If you see Stik.com, go to the right and select X to remove the application. This will prevent you posting to friends and others Facebook Wall.

For me, I didn’t have it listed but have received several wall posts from friends. Since I’ve set my privacy settings for application notices to just me, it’s easy to ignore or delete them and my friends won’t be targeted. But I still receive Wall Posts from friends and family which I’m happy to receive.

If you would like to do the same, here’s how:

1) If you have the application post in your wall settings, click on the X on the right-hand side of the post.

2) You will see a smaller window show up with several options, select BLOCK STIK.COM

That will remove Stik.com posts from showing up in the future. Now to set your privacy settings so that you won’t have future issues with new applications.

1) Go back to the Privacy Setting Page: ACCOUNT >> PRIVACY SETTINGS.

2) Game and app activity > Select EDIT SETTINGS drop down link on the right.

3) Select CUSTOM, Make this visible to ONLY ME.

If you make handmade products, such as cards and gifts, Etsy may be the ideal platform for you to sell your products.

Etsy is a website that connects sellers with buyers of artistic products. It has a very special sense of community and really strives to make the experience personable.

How can you sell your products on Etsy? Follow these steps list below or download my tutorial.

Step 1: Register an Account

If you don’t already have an Etsy account, the first step is to register. Follow the on-screen process to become a member.

Step 2: Click Sell

Click the “Sell” button to begin the process of registering yourself as a seller.

Step 3: Click “Sell on Etsy”

When you first click Sell, you’ll be taken to a page with basic information about becoming a seller on Etsy. To continue to registration process, click the “Sell on Etsy” button in the upper right.

Step 4: Fill Out Basic Information

Fill out the basic information Etsy needs from you.

Step 5: Credit Card Information

Enter your credit card information. Etsy needs this to ensure that your card works for paying listing fees.

Once you press enter, Etsy will charge you a $1.01 activation charge. If the charge goes through, Etsy knows your card works.

Step 6: Start the Listing Process

Once your card is validated, you’ll see the confirmation page. Click on “List an item now” to continue.

Step 7: Select Your Payment Methods

Before you create your listing, you need to first select what payment options you can accept. Most buyers will choose to pay by PayPal. If you don’t already have a PayPal account, it really pays to open one. If you choose to accept personal checks and money orders, you’ll also need to enter your shipping address.

Once you’ve selected your payment method, click on “list your first item” to continue.

Step 8: Enter Description

Choose a snazzy title to catch your customer’s attention. Enter a detailed description of your item. Don’t assume that the pictures speak for themselves. Yes, pictures go a long way, but it helps to assume you have no pictures with your listing when writing your description. Detail is the key.

Finally, list out the materials used to make your product. Yes, this actually matters, as users do search by materials.

Step 9: Choose Categories and Tags

Select your categories. First select the top level, then the sub-level then the sub-sub-level. Then, enter tags that describe your item. Choose descriptive tags to help others find your items. Use all 14 tags to maximize exposure.

Step 10: Choose Pricing and Shipping

Enter the price for your product. Enter the shop section you want your item listed in. In the beginning, you’ll have to create new sections for each different kind of item.

Finally, you’ll need to set your shipping prices. You can set different prices for different regions and countries.

Step 11: Add Images

Click “Choose File” to upload images from your computer. Click upload to upload.

Step 12: Review and Finish

Review all the details of your listings. If everything is in order, click “Finish” to list your item.

Those are the basics of selling on Etsy. You now know how to register as a seller, verify your billing address, setup payment methods and list an item. Just rinse and repeat the listing process for every item you want to sell.

There’s a lot that goes into becoming a successful Etsy seller. You need to setup a killer store, create high quality, unique products, list them properly and constantly monitor a number of things to make sure your sales continue to increase. So I’ve included an Etsy Selling Checklist in my tutorial.

Facebook can be a great way for you to expand your professional network, provided you take care to manage your online persona. But there are other, less obvious, ways to use Facebook to boost your business and your career.

Facebook can be a great way for you to expand your professional network, provided you take care to manage your online persona. But there are other, less obvious, ways to use Facebook to boost your business and your career.

For example, Facebook has a feature called “Groups.” A Group is a community of Facebook users who share a common interest or hobby. I have two groups going that allow me to connect and share with people in the group. One group I share projects that are appropriate for holidays and the other group is a Facebook Course Group available to those who have signed up for my Facebook Course. It’s really been very easy for me to share information and monitor questions and feedback. So much easier than setting up a Yahoo Group or Ning environment.

The key to successfully using the Groups feature is thinking broadly. You probably don’t want to create a Group for your business itself – you’d want a Facebook Page for that. Instead, you want to use your new Group to be an online space in which potential customers can interact with one another about things that interest them.
Think about whom your business serves, how those people’s interests relate to the business, and create a Group that covers some element of those interests. For instance, let’s say you have a scrapbook club that meets monthly. You could create a space for them to download information and share their projects and ideas. Perhaps you could start a Group about a particular type of club such as a technique club. People who don’t have a place to go in order to talk with other people about the things that interest them will likely join your Group if you just provide them a venue. The most important part of the process is to create something that will provide genuine value to people who are interested in things that are related to what your business does.

To create a new Group, login to Facebook and go to the Create a Group page. You’ll need to enter a Group Name, Description, and Group Type. You’ll have to decide whether group will be “open” (meaning that anyone can see the Group information, and anyone can join), “closed” (meaning that new members must be approved, and even though anyone can see the Group description, only approved members can actually see the wall, discussion board, and other Group content), or “secret” (meaning that the group does not appear in any search results or member profiles, and membership is by invitation only). Since you’re creating this Group for business purposes, you’ll likely want it to be an open group.

When you create a new Group, you will automatically be listed as a Group administrator. A Group administrator has the authority to control both the membership of the Group, as well as what gets posted on the Group’s wall.

An administrator controls membership in two ways:
(1) by approving new member requests (that is, people who’ve clicked on the Group page’s join button) if the Group is a private group, and
(2) by removing members. Administrators can send messages to the entire group, and edit the Group’s basic information and settings. By managing the Group, you position yourself as a trusted resource, so when people see that you are the owner of a business, much of the goodwill you’ve created is automatically transferred to that business.

As an administrator, you can also add new administrators who have those same powers, although you can later remove any administrators that you appointed. As your Group grows, you can use this power to enlist the help of trusted colleagues. When your customers are an active part of the community you’ve created, the degree of trust they have in you increases greatly.

The cons are that you don’t control who will receive email updates anymore. That’s in the hands of the groupee, they can select to receive emails for each post or none at all. Another con is that you don’t have control of listing categories such as videos, photos and links as you do on other Facebook pages. They are shown in Top Post order.

But the pros outweigh the cons for me. I like that I’m notified when members are active. I can easily add content and management of members is simple and smooth.

All the best!

An action step for the course is to make sure your websites and blogs prominently display your Facebook Badge above the fold; either in your website/blog sidebar or WordPress sidebar widget.

When you reach the Facebook Badge page from the above link, you’ll not only be able to make a specific Page Badge, but also a “Like” badge for your blog too. The Page Badge is for your Fan Page and the “Like” badge shares pages that you like. The Profile Badge is for your personal profile page and the Photo Badge shows off some recent pictures you added to your profile page. Kinda fun!

The Badge process is straight forward, just follow the prompts. I have an blog posts here about adding images to your blog sidebar. You can find it here http://debbiemcneill.com/blog/archives/677.

Make all the badges above – but know that your Page and “Like” badges are the two that will do most for growing your Facebook Page following. These only work on website and blogs, not in your emails. I highly recommend you add your Facebook Page link to your signature, in every email you send your list.

Here are some images/icons you can use to add to your emails or DBWS. If you are unsure how to add HTML to your emails, first try the copy and paste approach. I find that works for most of the emails. If that doesn’t work, then read this helpful article.

Now let's say you are ready to create a Facebook Page. Here are some instructions to do just that. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a comment below.

There was a lot of hubbub after Leadership about Facebook Profiles vs Facebook Pages. Basically, Facebook profiles are a place where you interact with your friends and Facebook Pages is where you would communicate about your Stampin’ Up! business.

Stampin’ Up! has since added a Q&A section on the demo web site which I highly recommend that you read. I think they did a wonderful job at highlighting and answering a few questions that we all ask about how to promote our Stampin’ Up! business. Go now…log-in to the Stampin’ Up! demonstrator website and find the page here –>Home > Training > Social Media Training > Facebook Q&A.

Now let’s say you are ready to create a Facebook Page. Here are some instructions to do just that. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a comment below.

STEP 1: PAGE SETUP
1. Click “Create a Page” in the lower right corner of the home page or click here to get started. http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php
2. Select the type of page you want to create. For this demonstration, we’re creating a Brand or Product Page for a business.
3. Choose what the page is for (Product/Service). You can narrow the focus using the drop-down that appears after you make the first selection.
4. Name your page using keywords related to your business. I used stamping & singing
5. Read and agree to the terms. If you don’t agree, obviously, you cannot create a page.
6. Click Get Started when you’re finished.

STEP 2: MANAGING PERMISSION
This is where you can set any restrictions for location, age, whether you want to publish your page or leave it unpublished until you have finished it. You can edit your Wall settings, add applications, etc. I’m not going to go through these.

HINT: You might want to set the Page Visibility check mark on until you are ready to publish. Be sure to click Save Changes for each section before moving on. You can always click View Page to return to the page.

Once you’ve finished with the settings, it’s time to move on to the other settings listed on the left sidebar. I’ve listed the setting pages that you will find most helpful below.

STEP 3: CUSTOMIZE YOUR PAGE
Customizing your page is just like customizing your profile page. You’ll want to upload an image that represents your company (preferable a picture of you or your branding), and add a summary as a way to introduce your offerings to prospective customers. Add more than just you sell stamps. What are you known for or especially good at? Scrapbooking, large clubs, personal service or business builder.

Select Basic Information to add specifics such as websites, contacts, addresses and phone numbers. Here is where you would add your DBWS page. Select Profile Picture to upload your picture. Select Your Settings to update your email and posting settings.

Once that is done you can return to your page by selecting View Page on the top right.

STEP 4: INVITE FRIENDS VIEW YOUR PAGE
To invite people to view your page; click the “Suggest To Friends” button under your profile picture. Select from your friends list those you would like to invite to your page. Add a personal message, don’t leave this part off. Click Send Invitation. If you are comfortable doing so, ask your friends to recommend your page to their friends. If you’re not comfortable doing this, that’s ok. Your following will naturally grow as people see that their friends have joined your page. They will visit out of curiosity and many will join.

DONE! Once you have setup your Facebook Page, add your page address to my wall so I can ‘LIKE” you. Don’t forget to “like me” on my Facebook Page for more ideas on how to use Facebook for your business at http://facebook.com/CraftyPerson.

Have questions for me about Facebook? Leave me a comment below and I will answer them as soon as I can.

I was on a phone with one of my 1-to-1 consulting members and she was considering going from a paid blogging platform to a free one. I recommended using WordPress as I’m a big fan. As a demonstrator, you can also use Stampin’ Up! DBWS blog platform for free, however, I find the user-interface a bit challenging for those of us who are blogging more than weekly. If you are just doing a weekly blog- please do use DBWS. Else, I recommend WordPress and then linking it to your DBWS blog.

Basic WordPress is a blog program that contains an easy-to-use format. What I like about it the most is that it is so easy to maintain. You can setup a new blog today at http://wordpress.com. If you would like even more control and personalization, talk with Amy at Webs by Amy. She is my go-to gal for all things technical on WordPress. Here is a simple, default WordPress blog for your review. One of the things I don’t like about WordPress is that it appears to be slower in response than others. I’m still looking into it to see if it is my service or the WordPress platform.

I plan to share more about WordPress with you in the coming months, as well as possible an online class. So I started a new category for WordPress under my categories list on the right. I’ll be migrating my articles soon but for now here are a list for your convenience.

It took me FOREVER to finally hire a VA. I’m so happy I made that leap. I learned a lot along the way too so here are some ideas when you are looking to hire a VA.

==> Ask for Referrals: Talk to other online business owners to see who they use. Finding someone who others enjoy working with is always one of the best ways to find help for your business. Use your mastermind connections. That’s one of the best benefits of being part of a mastermind group as I am with the Millionaire Protégé Club®. Look for something in your neighborhood.

==> Certification Isn’t Necessary: Although certified VAs may disagree, I feel certification is not necessarily an indicator of an exemplary service provider. I’ve used both and can’t say one is better than the other. Just a note that the lack of certification is not necessarily an indicator of poor service.

==> What Types of Tasks Do They Do?: A willing VA can be trained to perform tasks in the way you specify, but do look for virtual assistants with experience working with online business owners and who has some understanding of their needs. Having experience with stamping, and crafts is not necessary. We teach people to do that all the time. Look for expertise in areas you don’t know or not comfortable with.

==> What Are Their Rates?: Rates vary with virtual assistants. Some may charge per project, while others may charge per hour. As with any job, the pay rate for a virtual assistant can vary greatly. In general, a VA can expect to earn between $10 and $15 per hour when they are starting out. After they have gained experience and have established a good reputation they can charge more. If you plan on working with a VA on an ongoing basis (as you should), an hourly agreement simplifies the process. Ask if there are any discounts available if you keep your VA on retainer.

==> Test Them Out Before Agreeing to a Retainer: Ideally, you do want to work with a VA on an ongoing basis, but be sure you are a good fit before doing so. Give him/her a few projects and make sure he/she responds in a timely manner, takes direction well, clarifies any details that need clarifying and complete projects on time.

==> Software They Use: Find out what software they have available and are able to use. Again, people can be trained, if they are willing. You want to make sure you use the same software. The last thing you want is to have your VA gone and all the files created in a software you are not familiar with. You can also purchase software for your assistants. You may find this more cost effective than paying a new assistant a higher rate to use the same software.

==> A Virtual Assistant in Business vs. a Freelancer: When looking for a VA, this can become a tricky thing. Generally speaking, a virtual assistant who is solely in the business of being a virtual assistant, should be able to provide dedicated service to your business. On the other hand, I’ve learned from other (Kiyla Fenell) had good experience hiring individuals who were simply looking for steady administrative work from home. The latter also often charge less and are more susceptible to training to your company standards.

Here’s something to be aware of: VAs who do VA work on the side while trying to build another type of business of their own. That is where you run into trouble with consistency, meeting deadlines, etc. You want to find a VA that is committed to providing support to your business, not someone who is trying to pay the bills in the meantime.

==> Check References: Because your virtual assistant will have access to so much personal and business information, it’s important to check on any references provided. You should also search on Google for any reviews of their service.

This can be a great way for someone to start working from home. More and more people are starting websites and need people to help them handle their business affairs.
